One of the band's songs, "Grind," credited as a group composition, can be found on the independent Flamingo Records release Out of the Fog and the CD Out of the Fog Too. Her high school yearbook predicted that she was "destined to become a famous rock star." Following The October Game's first concert at Dalhousie University opening for Moev, Mc Lachlan was offered a recording contract with Vancouver-based independent record label Nettwerk by Moev's Mark Jowett.Mc Lachlan's parents insisted she finish high school and complete one year of studies at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design before moving to Vancouver and embarking on a new life as a recording artist.
She finally signed to Nettwerk two years later before having written a single song.
A mutual acquaintance introduced her to her birth mother when she was nineteen.
However, after Sarah got past the immediate shock of the split, she coped by writing two songs about the breakup, entitled "U Want Me 2" and "Don't Give Up on Us." 3 Breakup Lessons From Celebrities "Music has always been incredibly cathartic for me, whether it's writing my own stuff or singing other people's music; it's very freeing.
But it did take me a long while to be able to write again because I was just too far down a deep dark hole to do anything.
In 1997, Mc Lachlan married her drummer, Ashwin Sood, in Jamaica.
While she was pregnant, her mother died from cancer in December 2001.
Shortly thereafter, while working on the production on her next album, Afterglow, she gave birth to a daughter, India Ann Sushil Sood in Vancouver on 6 April 2002.
On 22 June 2007, she gave birth to her second daughter, Taja Summer Sood, in Vancouver.
Mc Lachlan did not seek her out and was ambivalent about meeting her.
